Each discipline of Lacrosse (Box, Men’s Field, Women’s Field and Inter-Crosse) has its own equipment requirements.


BOX

  • All players are required to wear helmet and facemask, protective gloves, shoulder and arm pads, and a back/kidney pad, all which must be approved for lacrosse as specified in the CLA Safety and Equipment Policy.
  • Goalkeepers are required to wear CLA approved helmet and facemask and throat guard, chest, shoulder and arm pads, gloves, pants, leg guards and shoes.
  • Stick – A player’s stick shall measure not more than 46”, nor less than 40” in overall length, and not more than 8”, nor less than 4 1⁄2” in width. The measurement for width is to be inside frame measurement. Note: In Pee Wee and all lower divisions, the minimum length of the stick shall be 34”. The goalkeeper’s stick may be of any desired length, but shall not be over 15” in width.

MEN'S FIELD

  • All players are required to wear protective gloves, suitable boots or shoes and a protective helmet equipped with a facemask and a chinstrap which must be properly fastened on both sides.
  • The special equipment worn by the goalkeeper shall not exceed standard equipment so far as shin guards, throat guards and chest protectors are concerned.
  • Stick – The stick shall be of an overall length either 40” to 42” – attack and middie stick – OR – 52” to 72” defense stick (“big stick”). The goalkeeper’s stick may be up to 15” inside measurement, the goalkeeper’s stick may be any desired length.

WOMEN'S FIELD

  • The women’s field game is non-contact therefore protective equipment is not required. Players may wear shoes with plastic, metal, leather or rubber cleat/studs. Spikes are not permitted. All players including the goalkeeper must wear a mouthguard.
  • The goalkeeper must wear a helmet with face mask, a throat protector and a chest or body pad. She may also wear padded gloves, arm pads and leg pads.
  • Stick – The overall length of the stick shall be 90 cm minimum to 110 cm maximum, 18 cc minimum to 23 cm maximum in width and less than or equal to 567 g in weight. The women’s field stick is strung with 4-5 vertical thongs and 8-12 stitches of cross lacing. Mesh is not allowed. When the ball is dropped into the pocket, the top of the ball must remain even with or above the top of the walls. The goalkeeper’s stick can have a mesh pocket, no restriction on depth of pocket (ball must be able to move freely with all parts of the pocket), length .9-1.22m and weight not more 773 g.


INTER-CROSSE

  • Inter-crosse is non-contact therefore no protective equipment except for the goaltender. Players equipment –inter-crosse stick, running shoes, shorts and numbered jersey.
  • Goalkeeper must wear a helmet and face mask, throat protector, chest protector, gloves (hockey or lacrosse), pants, leg protectors and runners. Goalkeepers use the same stick as a player.
  • Stick – molded plastic stick which must be 60cm to 75cm in length.

Compliance on the use of approved lacrosse balls becomes a requirement under the MLA insurance program and testing standards are the responsibility of the Canadian Lacrosse Association. (CLA)

Note: deBeer/Gait - deBeer has renamed their ball to Gait but it is the same ball.  There will be both lacrosse balls in circulation this season and both are approved.
